Created in 2000, Triptyk is Bartabas' seventh production for Théâtre Zingaro. It makes its United States premiere as the centerpiece of Eclectic Orange Festival 2002.

Performed in a 1,500-capacity arena tent on the site of the Orange County Performing Arts Center expansion, on the corner of Town Center Drive and Avenue of the Arts in Costa Mesa.

Performances will take place only in the evening, as the horses must avoid direct sunlight before entering the arena.

Performed to recorded music: Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring and Symphony of Psalms, as well as Pierre Boulez's Dialogue de l'ombre double (The Dialogue of the Double Shadow).

Featuring 25 horses and seven dancers from Kerala, India who perform kalaripayatt, an ancient form of martial arts.

Kalaripayatt was originated by the soldiers of the Raj of Kerala, a state in the southwest of India. Once taught in the courts of princes, it is practiced today in training centers called kalari. Actors from the schools of krishnattam and kathakali as well as classically trained dancers are among those who enter the 10-year noviciate required to develop the superhuman flexibility, suppleness and strength demanded by kalaripayatt. It is a complex, codified form of movement and gesture that is deeply rooted in a spiritual reverence for nature.

The featured kalaripayatt dancers are all Dravidians, one of the most ancient peoples in Asia. Before they joined Theatre Zingaro they had never set eyes on horses.

Running time is 90 minutes with no intermission
